When you think of modern, you need not go forward in time,
instead, return to a classic era of Old Hollywood to The Supper Club. A
period where style and elegance was sumptuous, luxurious and opulent.
A cocktail party was glamorous, fashionable and swanky. Beautiful women
in satin dresses, bias-cut or Princess Line, sexy strapless or V
necklines, handsome men in tails, black tie or white tie, with a swing
band playing, Frank Sinatra singing and Sammy Davis Jr. tap dancing on
a shiny white dance floor. With The Supper Club as our inspiration,
event producer, Lisa Vorce/ Oh, How Charming! pulls in the troops to
recreate this setting in the showroom of Tabella Linen and Décor for
Modern Events in West Hollywood.
Tabella’s white banquette, a leather-tufted couch, was the leading
element to initiate this designer’s masterpiece. Lisa Vorce states,
“More of my clients are bringing residential and lounge furniture to
their wedding. Cocktail hour can become a great influence to the
overall event design and has a dual purpose. Pulling in lounge
furniture to create a lounge setting creates an atmosphere where guests
can retreat throughout the wedding reception – which becomes the place
everyone wants to be.”
The initial color palette began with all white, accents of black and
acid green, hard edges, and mirrors but quickly changed to incorporate
a more romantic environment. Vorce explains, “We didn’t want a strong
color to overpower the white, so we softened the palette by using the
cool gun metal grey.” Tabella found suede in charcoal grey tones and
made the linen for the table. For the chairs, the latest design by Chameleon Chair
, with white cloth back and seat cushion, was a perfect match for the
setting. To add a more feminine touch, pink was introduced in the silk
Dupioni napkins.
Then came Eddie Zaratsian’s colorful floral creations. The creative
director and owner of Tic Toc Couture Florals, Eddie included pink
peonies, grey-silver lamb’s ears, antique green hydrangeas, light pink
garden roses, brown succulents, chocolate cosmos and light pink spray
roses in two antique containers bridged together with steal grass.
Napkin treatments of mini bouquets were tied onto the napkins, loose
pearls sprinkled on the table, black bands wrapped around silver candle
votives with delicate crystals attached. Eddie explains, “It’s a twist
on a modern European approach. Nothing rigid or hard. Just softened by
a garden setting.”
Tabella Linen & Décor, a specialty rental firm, provided glassware
and flatware as well as china plates from Rosanna Platinum Chandelier
Collection. This beautiful dishware is designed with hand-rendered
illustrations of a chandelier in genuine platinum, which brought
glimmer to the white setting.
Zoe with Studio Z Mendocino created the menus and place cards with the
chandelier motif derived from the Rosanna Platinum Chandelier
collection.
To set the overall mood and make a dramatic impact, Barker Décor
Service used white chiffon to encase the room and created a spectacular
effect with pink up-lighting. They also designed a striking high-gloss
white dance floor highlighted with modern geometric designs—the kind of
dance floor that calls for the magic of the Rogers-Astaire dancing duo.
Welcome gifts were designed out of hat boxes with fresh flowers created
by Tic Toc Couture Florals and accented with a welcome tag from Studio
Z Mendocino also inspired by the chandelier motif. “Hat boxes with
fresh flowers are such a nice welcome gift,” says Eddie. “When people
go out of town, they often eat rich and wonderful food, so rather than
put a basket of food in their room, why not fresh flowers along with a
map, list of things to do and a thank-you note for joining your
wedding.”
Food elements served from the lounge were also designed to lend to the
décor with Pinky’s Vodka martinis, white yogurt covered raisons, white
chocolate covered pretzels, white powered donuts, and pink jelly
beans.
