 Blogging for Brides

The new way to journal. . . fun and therapeutic
By Melissa Mellott, SpaDefined.com

michellewalker_blogging_a.jpg

Wedding preparation is full of adventure, decision-making, and problem-solving. Whether you’ve already experienced it, are now in the midst of it, or have seen the drama of it on reality TV, we know that planning a wedding is a stressful, comical, and precious time. Each scenario—and especially each mishap—is a short story in the making.
Visit any bookstore and you’ll find dozens of wedding-planning books to record your thoughts, strategies, and preliminary events for the big day. Consider, though, a new way to document your wedding drama: blog about it.
Blogging is not only fun but therapeutic for the bride, and it sheds light on challenges that may come about in wedding planning. A blog also allows friends and family members to read about the planning and those everyday adventures of the soon-to-be newlyweds.
So what exactly is a blog? It’s a fairly new concept; my computer doesn’t even recognize the word, underlining it in red every time I type it. Yet the what, when, and how of blogging is simple. A blog (short for Web log) is simply an online journal for writing your thoughts, feelings, and observations about an important event or experience. For example, I recently lived in Tuscany for three months. I considered this an important chapter in my life, and one that I wanted to document, so friends and family were able to read, through my blog, all about my everyday adventures from the comfort of their own computers.
Setting up a blog account is free and easy. If you’ve ever opened a free email account, such as with Yahoo or Hotmail, then you can set up a blog account! Try any of these blogging sites to register for an account: www.blogger.com , www.blog.com , or www.thoughts.com . Just like establishing a new email, you’ll choose a blog address. Your blog name should be simple and easy to remember; mine, for example, is www.melissaintuscany.blogspot.com.

So what’s a bride to blog about? She can blog about everything that makes her laugh, cry, scream, and love. Remember, though: a blog is public information that others will read. Here are some suggested topics:

      * Introduce the bride and groom
      * The proposal, the engagement, the ring
      * Shopping for the dress
      * The bridal party, family, and friends
      * Choosing the flowers, cake, and photographer
      * Deciding on venue for the rehearsal, ceremony, and reception
      * Thoughts and feelings on the shower, the
bachelorette party, and other pre-wedding events
      * Event details such as dates, times, and locations

You don’t have to be a published author to write a good blog entry. However, your blog writing should give the reader a visual, make them laugh, evoke a feeling, or inform them. Be personable in your blog, as details, characters, and creativity will all make for a great read and make the process of blogging fun and therapeutic.
Here are some tips to give your blog life and personality:

      * The bride has many stories to tell, but what about the groom?
Ask him if he wants to blog.
      * Don’t worry too much about grammar. A blog is a casual, fun
journal—an unedited look into your personal experience.
      * Blog about your first thoughts on people and events
      * Don’t forget descriptions and details about the characters in
         your story.
      * Add photos to your blog. Keep them to a minimum, though,
and use low resolution web-sized pictures. Some blogs can take
a long time to load if there are large files attached, and people
won’t want to wait. More importantly, your words and
descriptions tell a better story; creative writing doesn’t always
         need photos.
      * Use creative titles for each entry. For example, don’t title a
blog entry “Shopping for My Wedding Dress.” Instead, be a
little dramatic and dynamic with your titles: “Dress Shopping
with an Attitude” or “The Cost of the Wedding Dress Blows
the Budget” or “Trying on Wedding Dresses & Drinking
         Red Wine.”

Once you’ve established your blog account, send an email with your blog address to friends and family, inviting them to read about your wedding-planning process. Encourage viewers of your blog to post comments on your entries. Before you know it, your wedding day will arrive and you’ll be off on your honeymoon and living your next adventure . . . and perhaps blogging about it!

Tips
  • #31 FLORAL DECOR
No wedding is complete without flowers. Try updating the traditional centerpiece by using masses of your favorite flowers in a variety of complementary tones for added texture and interest. For instance, if your bloom-of-choice is the gerbera daisy, try one centerpiece with dozens of red gerberas, another with orange, and another with fuchsia-colored bunches. Let your imagination run wild!

  • # 6  RECIPES FOR FAVORS
Gather together the favorite recipes that you remember as a child. They could be special family recipes, holiday menus, etc.  Have them bound in small books, affix a wedding label on the front with your monogram and date that you were married. And there you have it, a unique favor that your guests will use again and again. Also, it is a wonderful way to acknowledge grandmothers and mothers.

  • #21 LA FLEUR TABLE
Cover your entire table top with a single bold color of petals. Not just a scattering, but the entire top of the table with a thick layer of petals! You can purchase them at a farmers market or order them through your florist. Place your chargers, place settings, glassware and centerpieces in a contrasting color and lots of candles directly onto the petals for a stunning, romantic look!
