A diamond that is so perfectly cut that it has all the classic elements of a diamond’s beauty—brilliance, dispersion and scintillation. A diamond that sparkles like a red-hot fire. A Hearts On Fire diamond.

For decades, if not centuries, jewelers have created stunning pieces inspired by the alluring sensuality of flowers and nature. At YWD, we wondered about the possibilities of creating floral bouquets inspired by stunning nature inspired jewelry. So we put four prominent floral designers up to the task. Whether you draw inspiration from an heirloom art deco diamond broach or a new semi-precious lavalier necklace, let the timeless beauty of flowers and diamonds inspire you to create something truly special and unique for your wedding day.

Laura from S.R. Houe drew inspiration from nature and the vibrant flowers associated with the summertime. The pieces selected from Bryant & Sons made her think of "walking through a beautiful garden with fragrant roses, bright pink peonies, lush hydrangea plants, and dragonflies (a sign of good luck) flying around me in the summer breeze."

An artist in her own right, Camilla of Camilla Svensson Burns Floral Design found inspiration in the form of a stunning green pear-shaped pendant from Kevin Main Jewelers. “The color definitely struck a chord with me. I love that Celadon Celery hue.” Much like Camilla’s creation, “the pendant itself has a traditional feel with contemporary elegance...”

Michelle and Wendee from Your Image Botanical Design fully embraced our challenge through their floral interpretation of a stunning bohemian style necklace from Primavera Gallery.  Michelle said, “The impetus for this floral display was in part because of the history and culture of the jewelry...to us this was like creating a late-century still-life painting.”

From the seasons to an entire era, Nico of Nico Designs was inspired by a pavé diamond necklace and earrings from Montecito jeweler, AH Gaspar. “The jewelry looked very vintage to me...1940’s or 1950’s.  So I thought a lot about popular flowers from that era and tried to create an updated version of a bouquet, using timeless and traditional colors and flowers.”

Tips
  • #11 QUICK FIX
Traveling with an emergency kit is like the American Express campaign, “Don’t leave home without it.” It should have everything from panty hose and nail glue to smelling salts and Tums, but the most commonly used item is SAFETY PINS!  Although you should have a needle and thread, I have resorted to using safety pins for fixing hems on tuxedos, bustling the brides gown, pinning broken bra straps and creating a veil or headpiece out of tulle when the bride’s was left at home.  Safety pins are great for a “quick fix.”

  • # 6  RECIPES FOR FAVORS
Gather together the favorite recipes that you remember as a child. They could be special family recipes, holiday menus, etc.  Have them bound in small books, affix a wedding label on the front with your monogram and date that you were married. And there you have it, a unique favor that your guests will use again and again. Also, it is a wonderful way to acknowledge grandmothers and mothers.

  • #21 LA FLEUR TABLE
Cover your entire table top with a single bold color of petals. Not just a scattering, but the entire top of the table with a thick layer of petals! You can purchase them at a farmers market or order them through your florist. Place your chargers, place settings, glassware and centerpieces in a contrasting color and lots of candles directly onto the petals for a stunning, romantic look!
