Style Tips #26 through #30 on Rehearsals, Dresses, Guest Books & more…

#26 MARRYING MINDFULLY

Creating the “perfect wedding” can easily overshadow what is really important about getting married—creating a sacred and lifelong bond with your beloved. Your wedding is not a “to-do” list. Take time to tend to your relationship and to yourselves so that you enter into the celebration relaxed, joyful, and with a full heart.
Carmina McGee, Skin – Health - Well-Being

#27 THURSDAY NIGHT REHEARSALS
Going directly from the rehearsal, right to the rehearsal dinner, then straight into a long wedding day can be as exhausting as running a marathon.  If your wedding is on Saturday, a Thursday night rehearsal dinner will help minimize stress, fatigue and anxiety. You will have an extra day between the rehearsal and the wedding to tie up loose ends, spend more time with family or to allow a pampered moment for the bride and groom.  Give yourself that extra day.

#28 BRIDESMAID DRESSES
Looking for something new in bridesmaid dresses? Take a tip from the celebrities and look for something old! Retro fashion is in. You can find beautiful vintage designer dresses at a reasonable price, and they will be cherished and worn again and again! - Monica Wells, A Beautiful Day Events

#29 “COFFEE TABLE” GUEST BOOK

If you want to know who came to your wedding but don’t want the standard guest book, here’s a creative option. Visit your favorite bookstore and find an interesting coffee table book that is meaningful to you—such as a book of photos from the wine country where your wedding is taking place. Use two extra fine Sharpies—they won’t ever smear—and have your guests write whatever they want right across a photograph. Afterwards the book actually lives with you in your living room instead of in a box in the garage.

#30 BODA FLAMENCA (FLAMENCO WEDDING)
California is rich with Spanish Old World heritage.  Music from Spain touches people of all age groups. The older crowd will appreciate the classical virtuoso style of the Spanish guitar and younger guests will enjoy the rhythms and the pop sensibility of modern Flamenco. Why not hold your reception in a local Spanish restaurant for a Flamenco Cuadro dance performance? You can enjoy some tapas and sangria, and you and your guest might even be tempted to join the dancers for a rumba gitana. This can be the plato fuerte—main dish— of your party and a perfect way to spice up a Spanish-themed event.

Tips
  • #11 QUICK FIX
Traveling with an emergency kit is like the American Express campaign, “Don’t leave home without it.” It should have everything from panty hose and nail glue to smelling salts and Tums, but the most commonly used item is SAFETY PINS!  Although you should have a needle and thread, I have resorted to using safety pins for fixing hems on tuxedos, bustling the brides gown, pinning broken bra straps and creating a veil or headpiece out of tulle when the bride’s was left at home.  Safety pins are great for a “quick fix.”

  • # 6  RECIPES FOR FAVORS
Gather together the favorite recipes that you remember as a child. They could be special family recipes, holiday menus, etc.  Have them bound in small books, affix a wedding label on the front with your monogram and date that you were married. And there you have it, a unique favor that your guests will use again and again. Also, it is a wonderful way to acknowledge grandmothers and mothers.

  • #31 FLORAL DECOR
No wedding is complete without flowers. Try updating the traditional centerpiece by using masses of your favorite flowers in a variety of complementary tones for added texture and interest. For instance, if your bloom-of-choice is the gerbera daisy, try one centerpiece with dozens of red gerberas, another with orange, and another with fuchsia-colored bunches. Let your imagination run wild!
