Style Tips #16 through #20 on Receptions, Décor, Makeup & more…

#16 COMFORTABLE RECEPTIONS

Reception spaces are taking on a comfort theme nowadays. Rather than using cocktail tables alone, couples are creating a lounge effect in their reception areas by adding cozy furniture groupings of sofas and coffee tables, along with tenting and draping, lamps and lanterns, lit up trees and dozens of candles. You may want to hire a jazz quartet or flamenco trio to create a sultry ambiance.  Some couples are even hiring cigar rollers!  You can also use this set-up outdoors for a living room beneath the stars!

#17 CREATIVE BUFFET DECOR

Spruce up your buffet by incorporating certain foods and items from the natural environment into your décor. For events with a rustic or “outdoorsy” theme, nestle platters in coffee beans or small smooth rocks. For an Asian-inspired menu, surround your food presentation with kumquats or another brightly colored fruit.

#18 ATTENDANTS
Rather than having your male and female attendants segregated on opposite sides of the altar, why not have them alternate! Have your groomsmen walk up, then stand on either side, leaving spaces between for the bridesmaids when they arrive. Nothing makes your bridesmaids’ beautiful dresses stand out more than being framed by men in black suits or tuxedos!  It’s a stunning look !

#19 MULTI-CULTURES
Blending and including different cultures at a wedding can be fun. Make your reception dinner from one culture, then, have a dessert from another. Or use different decorations like hanging Chinese lanterns and use maracas on the tables for a blended Chinese-Mexican wedding.

#20 MAKEUP

A wedding brings on many tears of joy—and with that comes running mascara and “raccoon eyes.” Having your eyelashes tinted and using clear gel mascara on your wedding day will prevent this from happening. Having some Visine handy along with makeup for touch ups will keep you picture-perfect all day long!

Tips
  • #11 QUICK FIX
Traveling with an emergency kit is like the American Express campaign, “Don’t leave home without it.” It should have everything from panty hose and nail glue to smelling salts and Tums, but the most commonly used item is SAFETY PINS!  Although you should have a needle and thread, I have resorted to using safety pins for fixing hems on tuxedos, bustling the brides gown, pinning broken bra straps and creating a veil or headpiece out of tulle when the bride’s was left at home.  Safety pins are great for a “quick fix.”

  • # 6  RECIPES FOR FAVORS
Gather together the favorite recipes that you remember as a child. They could be special family recipes, holiday menus, etc.  Have them bound in small books, affix a wedding label on the front with your monogram and date that you were married. And there you have it, a unique favor that your guests will use again and again. Also, it is a wonderful way to acknowledge grandmothers and mothers.

  • #21 LA FLEUR TABLE
Cover your entire table top with a single bold color of petals. Not just a scattering, but the entire top of the table with a thick layer of petals! You can purchase them at a farmers market or order them through your florist. Place your chargers, place settings, glassware and centerpieces in a contrasting color and lots of candles directly onto the petals for a stunning, romantic look!
