Let’s face it, when you receive a truly beautiful couture-designed invitation to a wedding, the impression is set for what you know is going to be an exceptional occasion. It’s at that envelope-opening moment that you jump in the air and hop onto the internet searching for flights – knowing that no matter how far away the wedding may be – this is the occasion that you simply cannot miss.
That’s the kind of impact that Lisa Hoffman of Ceci New York creates for her clients. She’s a talented and dedicated Graphic Designer with a combined background in Fine Arts and Art and Design, who hand illustrates and conceptualizes every design detail. The quality and execution of the finished invitation with its distinct, unique branding set the tone for the event. “Then”, says Lisa, “the expectation is that the wedding will live up to the invitation.” The smiles and the heart beats are already in motion.
Lisa gave up living in San Diego to immerse herself in the art-filled energy, diversity and culture of New York City. Ceci New York’s concept is ‘downtown style meets classical elegance’. Lisa is passionate about her craft and follows her Dad’s great advice which is: Sweat + Sacrifice = Success. She thrives at showing clients just how much a couture graphic designer can do to brand their wedding event. She presents a myriad of choices and then sets out to exceed their expectations. She says enthusiastically, “Brides are seeking to make a personal statement, so I make sure that there are no limitations. There are so many inks, materials and types of paper that I’ve sourced throughout the world, and the exclusive paintings and illustrations set my invitations apart. I love that each piece is so personal and means something very significant to a couple. I reflect back on each design once they are completed as they are a one-of-a-kind work of art in themselves.”
Meeting Lisa is an inspirational experience. Her imagination is flavored with rich, historical appreciation. She enthuses, “I’m fascinated by the turn-of-the-century couture fashion designers. Each couture gown was completely fabricated and designed specifically for each customer. I love the artistry, craftsmanship, patterns and fine quality that these designers embodied. If I could have designed invitations for someone special, my two picks would be Coco Chanel and Frida Khalo. I admire these women for their sense of individuality, creative style and courage. Both of them stood up against the established norms of design and created legendary beauty on their own terms.”
Among the myriad of compliments that have come Lisa’s way is her rare ability to offer a different solution for every client while still keeping true to the Ceci style that she has established. Her professionalism, ease of interaction and levels of service are other welcome components. And Lisa’s best advice to couples is: “Hire your stationery designer immediately, even if you don’t have your details finalized. That can come later. The main thing is to get the creativity started up….and relax while the idea people do the work and provide the inspiration.” With that piece of wisdom said, the energized Lisa is off to immerse herself in more invitational style and sophistication.
