Bosque del Cabo Rainforest Lodge
Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica

Actors Letitia and Roman met when she needed an additional actor for the program she also produces, True Colors. A mutual friend suggested Roman, who was in London working on an HBO special at the time. When he returned, the professional link was made—as was one which became more personal.

After ten years of dating, Roman proposed in January 2006. “He proposed to me in Costa Rica, at the beautiful Bosque del Cabo Rainforest Lodge,” Letitia says. The two fell in love with the area, and decided to have their wedding there. “We wanted to share this special place with our friends and family.”

With few rainforest wedding services available, the event called for a great deal of ingenuity and creativity on the part of wedding planner Robin Sonner. The décor had to be flown in, Costa Rican white orchids had to be trekked down the Peninsula, and Roman carried the wedding gown to the lodge on his lap in a tiny plane and then by Land Rover. For lighting in the all-solar region, lanterns were fitted with battery-powered lights, and to supplement an acoustic guitar, a guest was pressed into service as “the iPod DJ extraordinaire!”
The planning included informing guests of proper jungle attire. “Think suspension bridge and rainforest,” Letitia warned them. Once over the bridge, the guests followed a flowered path to a “sacred and magical” palm tree circle. Letitia, escorted by her stepfather, descended a winding hill in a strapless, dupioni silk Pronovias of Barcelona gown with ruching at the bodice, an asymmetrical skirt, and a beaded bolero jacket. “It was quite dramatic,” one guest said. “The sunlight dazzling, her veil flowing.”
After the ceremony, conducted by Father Rudy from a tiny Puerto Jimenez church, the guests followed the guitarist “Pied Piper-style” back across the bridge to an elegant reception. Before the cake, in keeping with Letitia’s family tradition, the groom was thrown into the pool. “Of course, the entire wedding party ended up in the pool!” Letitia reveals—including her!

The next day, Letitia and Roman rappelled down a 120-foot waterfall—he in his tux and she in her gown, which they’d wrung out after their immersion in the pool. Returning to the Lodge, they spotted a “For Sale” sign tacked to a tree, and they now own some Costa Rican land near the site of their magical wedding. A honeymoon is being planned.
