Jian and Steven first met at Duke University. Jian attended the school’s student activity fair where she and Steven began talking passionately about his student group. She soon joined the group, and together they helped raise money to aid Tsunami victims, tutored homeless children, and cared for terminally ill children with cancer. Their friendship quickly blossomed into the beginning of their journey together.

Steven purchased promise rings. Leaving for a different school, he officially proposed to Jian down on his knees with these promise rings. After accepting his proposal immediately, Jian admitted that it took her breath away.

The couple was married at the Four Seasons Hotel Palo Alto, Silicon Valley. With the dramatic imagination from Morgan Events, the setting was a vision of splendor depicting a Japanese Sakura Garden with a modern twist.
Jian is Chinese and Steven is part Taiwanese/Japanese so they incorporated their dual cultures into the ceremony. They read Chinese and Japanese poems, and a Buddhist wedding prayer to honor their parents. The couple held their ceremony on a red wooden bridge, with strings of Japanese paper cranes dangling from tree branches. Steven indulged his bride during the ceremony and sang his vow, while playing a piano piece that he composed.
Jian’s favorite color is pink so her wedding gown from Kay’s Bridal was adorned with a pink sash. Bridesmaid dresses from Eden Bridals were also in pink. Steven wore a black tuxedo from AfterHours Formalwear with a pink vest and a pink bow tie, both of which further accentuated the pinkness of the wedding. It took Jian winning a Scrabble game in order for him to agree to wear pink. She also required all his groomsmen to wear pink.
For the reception, guests were treated to Springs Rolls, Ahi Tuna, Asian Spiced Chicken and Garlic Rock Shrimp. For dessert, guests indulged in Coconut Lychee Mousse, Green Tea Crème Brulée, a chocolate fountain with fresh strawberries and a tea bar, all presented and prepared by the Catering Staff at the Four Seasons. Shinmin Li of I Dream of Cakes sculptured a masterpiece five-tiered wedding cake comprised of green tea cake and green tea mousse.

The newlyweds have not found time to go on a honeymoon, but they feel that spending every day together is a honeymoon in itself.
