Alice and Sam met at Camp Conifer summer camp when they were 12, a camp where Korean youth could meet each other and learn about their culture. The two became fast friends, but lost contact when they started high school. Five years later, they met again, this time at UCLA where they were in the same chemistry class.

On the tenth anniversary of their meeting, Sam planned a very sneaky proposal. He asked Alice to come home to celebrate even though she was 90 miles away at the time.  She was suspicious because he kept calling to see how close she was, and he said the garage door was broken, so she’d have to come in the front.
“When I got home, Sam opened the front door and had the biggest grin on his face,” Alice says.  He opened the door further, revealing a white runner lined with candles, rose petals, and pictures of the couple from over their 10 years.
“Buddy (their dog) came galloping over to me with a silver box and red ribbon around his neck,” Alice says.  It held a ring with three stones signifying the past, present, and future.

For their ceremony, the couple walked down the aisle together after descending opposing staircases and meeting at the bottom.
Sam’s father officiated the ceremony, and in keeping with Korean tradition, the best man, Sam’s brother, and the maid of honor, carried male and female wooden geese representing a bride’s and groom’s pledge of faithfulness like geese who keep the same partner for life.
They also had a Korean wine ceremony, the equivalent of exchanging rings.  The couple washed their hands, symbolizing cleansing the body and soul. Then they drank three sips of wine. The first symbolized God’s blessing of the marriage from heaven; the second was to bless the marriage from God on earth; the third sip was to thank the guests for their blessing of the marriage.
Alice’s dress was a Carolina Herrera design from Saks Fifth Avenue. Sam wore an  Ermenegildo Zegna tuxedo.
The reception had a modern yet classic feel, with their colors in pink, grey, and turquoise. The walls were covered with sheer panels to create two color combinations, blue and pink/purple. To match the color scheme, Sam wore pink-striped socks, and the groomsmen wore striped socks in different colors. “We thought this would be something fun and quirky,” Alice says. For the cocktail hour she and Sam donned traditional Korean attire.
The reception dinner included Chilean Sea Bass and Filet Mignon, and a Buddy figurine topped the wedding cake.
