wedding event design modern tokyo inspired weddingThe inspiration for the design and backdrop of this wedding lounge was inspired by the feel of Tokyo, which is a country renowned for its minimalistic design, simplicity and futuristic vibe. “The design concept was based off a modern lounge that would be featured in a lush and lavish hotel lobby or an expensive nightclub in Tokyo,” Linnae Asiel of Asiel Design said.

Tokyo is simply an ethereal journey, possessing a sophisticated luxury. The décor of Tokyo strikes a balance by using bold colors, and yet somehow manages to create an elegant oasis of space and calm. With using clean lines to maintain the modern feeling of the Tokyo vibe, the main inspiration of this design was the red plexiglass walls, which housed many votive candles. “The candles are behind the plexiglass on the candle wall,” Jonathan Michael of Asiel Design explains. “It’s almost as if the wall is reversed, showing the votives shining through the candle wall.”

“We built the concept around these pieces,” Linnae comments, “to create a polished and yet minimalist décor.” The creative duo added sculptural vases of Calla lilies and beautiful saturated lighting by Enhanced Lighting and Sound to achieve that simple but ultra-chic look.

Fiery red is a hard color to pull off because it’s bold and outlandish. “It’s lush and romantic… and embodies all those things at once. We think of Tokyo and ultra-club red as that color that stuck out,” Michelle of MB Wedding Design & Events said.  Red certainly has an attitude all its own. It would be easy to be distracted by its brazen presence, but the designers managed to soften and balance the red with the candle walls, and simplistic use of flowers. “Red is a bold color; it’s vibrant and has passion to it. This is really wedding event design modern tokyo inspired weddingdifferent… we see this look in nightclubs and sophisticated hotels, but decided to do it for a lounge; it has not infiltrated the wedding scene yet. It’s fun to show it in a wedding lounge—it’s new and different,” Jonathan said, describing the design. “It’s not really Asian… it’s Tokyo and Japan— their design is more futuristic,” Jonathan said. He makes a point to define this look as “modern, but futuristic, in an ultra-lounge.”

The wedding lounge is definitely a room that inspires intimate social interaction. “This is really setting the mood. Throughout the evening people lose interest, but if you have an area like a lounge… you will have people with drink in hand, conversing, and not want to leave,” Michelle said.  The lounge has a sensual and cozy vibe, which includes sleek, aluminum red chairs.  “A lot of couples are leaning towards modern so what would move someone (towards red) is the romance,” shares Michelle describing the warm glow of red as being synonymous with “romance and warmth.”

The luxurious wedding lounge moonlights as a luxurious sanctuary with chandeliers and glass vases with minimal floral embellishments.  Simplicity is beauty and the sheer elegance of the flowers give the lounge a romantic feel, while the glowing candle wall illuminates a sensual softness, which creates an enchanting and intriguing element. This room definitely encourages the flow of passion, blazes with sexuality, and helps celebrate the beauty of love.

Tips
  • #11 QUICK FIX
Traveling with an emergency kit is like the American Express campaign, “Don’t leave home without it.” It should have everything from panty hose and nail glue to smelling salts and Tums, but the most commonly used item is SAFETY PINS!  Although you should have a needle and thread, I have resorted to using safety pins for fixing hems on tuxedos, bustling the brides gown, pinning broken bra straps and creating a veil or headpiece out of tulle when the bride’s was left at home.  Safety pins are great for a “quick fix.”

  • #31 FLORAL DECOR
No wedding is complete without flowers. Try updating the traditional centerpiece by using masses of your favorite flowers in a variety of complementary tones for added texture and interest. For instance, if your bloom-of-choice is the gerbera daisy, try one centerpiece with dozens of red gerberas, another with orange, and another with fuchsia-colored bunches. Let your imagination run wild!

  • # 1 - LOUNGING ANYWHERE
Wonder what to do to a resort ballroom to make it more interesting and intimate?  You can create individual lounge areas by renting tents of sheer flowing fabric and adding sofas and coffee tables with lots of candlelight in them.  You’ve suddenly created that romantic lounge atmosphere in a standard ballroom and given it more intimacy.  Your guests can move to different “rooms” during the cocktails hour or or they can dance the night away.
