“Cool, sleek, hip/hipster.” These were the words that sprung to mind when Nicole Hirsty of Cobalt Events sat down to create her event design. Likewise, several images were immediately called into play: bold shapes, clean lines, cool white, bright patterns. Together, these words and images served as the inspiration for Nicole’s Your Wedding Day Mod Wedding design.
Nicole began her design by focusing on the larger set pieces, especially the egg chair and oval ottoman which she placed mid-room as a focal point. “These pieces were selected to create a whimsical, yet modern feel,” Nicole said. “I felt like they were important and unique pieces to balance the room and also great places to incorporate color.” |

Her use of color included modern white background and carpeting, with strategically placed accent bursts of oranges and pinks to “warm” the setting, including fuchsia cushions and menus. The modular walls, another focal point, evoked the idea of bright flower boxes for a spot of within-structure color.
Her tabletop incorporated warm color too. “The burst of color of the fuchsia satin napkin on the table with the menu placed on top creates layers that make your tabletop interesting and personalized,” Nicole explained. White square chargers and dinner plates and tangerine-dotted dessert plates enhanced the cool, modern theme, as did the cylindrical stemware and Euro Stainless flatware pattern.
In a final touch, Nicole noted how the egg chair inspired a daisy frame. “When I saw all the pink daises around the egg chair, that pulled together the whole set.”
Which couples would choose this type of wedding? Nicole replied, “A couple who appreciates and gravitates towards contemporary aesthesis. Mod Design can be incorporated for a casual and black-tie wedding.” She added that her Your Wedding Day Mod event concept is ideal for the adventuresome couple not wanting a ‘cookie-cutter’ wedding.

#16 COMFORTABLE RECEPTIONS
Reception spaces are taking on a comfort
theme nowadays. Rather than using cocktail tables alone, couples are
creating a lounge effect in their reception areas by adding cozy
furniture groupings of sofas and coffee tables, along with tenting and
draping, lamps and lanterns, lit up trees and dozens of candles. You
may want to hire a jazz quartet or flamenco trio to create a sultry
ambiance. Some couples are even hiring cigar rollers! You can also
use this set-up outdoors for a living room beneath the stars!

#11 QUICK FIX
Traveling with an emergency kit is like the American Express campaign, “Don’t leave home without it.” It should have everything from panty hose and nail glue to smelling salts and Tums, but the most commonly used item is SAFETY PINS! Although you should have a needle and thread, I have resorted to using safety pins for fixing hems on tuxedos, bustling the brides gown, pinning broken bra straps and creating a veil or headpiece out of tulle when the bride’s was left at home. Safety pins are great for a “quick fix.”

#31 FLORAL DECOR
No wedding is complete without flowers. Try updating the traditional
centerpiece by using masses of your favorite flowers in a variety of
complementary tones for added texture and interest. For instance, if
your bloom-of-choice is the gerbera daisy, try one centerpiece with
dozens of red gerberas, another with orange, and another with
fuchsia-colored bunches. Let your imagination run wild!
