Mineral Beauty
Every major magazine from Lucky or Vogue to Aesthetics International is raving about the newest foundation: mineral-based makeup. Mineral makeup is a simple yet complex technology that involves grinding minerals, such as Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide and Mica to 1000th of an inch and coloring it by using food-grade dyes or through oxidization.
Mineral makeup is proven to be the most successful in creating a smooth, even, flawless skin in photography for weddings and film. The bride who wears this most natural makeup will be without the usual mask look or the color-variation at the jaw line. It is also water-resistant for all-day wear and has thorough sun protection!
Look for a makeup artist who can custom-blend the foundation color to create the perfect match for your skin tone.
For pre-made color mineral foundations can be bought at most good beauty supplies shops. Look for established brands like Jane Iredale and Youngblood and check out www.colorlabcosmetics.com.

Long Lasting Makeup
On your wedding day, beauty that lasts through the whole day is essential.
Two products that help attain this goal are primer and sealer. Primer goes on after moisturizer and before make-up base. Some of the best primers are Laura Mercier and Smashbox. For a sealer, La Femme and Cici are excellent. Sealer mixied with eyeliner, eyeshadow and lipstick keeps the makeup in place.
There are new products that already have primers and sealers mixed-in such as Laura Mercier Crème Eyeshadows and Mac Long Wear Lipcolor.
With the right primers and sealers, your makeup will look fresh all day.

Finding the Right Team for You
More often than not, your “regular” hair and makeup stylist is not the person for you on your wedding day. Doing hair and make-up for a bride and bridal party is a completely different animal—it requires a different kind of timing and different sensitivity. Ask your wedding planner or coordinator for recommendations; they know who specializes in bridal hair and makeup.
It’s best to have someone come to you on-location, so you don’t have to travel and waste your precious time. Look for a company who can provide a team to accommodate your whole party. There are companies who provide packaged services like massages, manicures, facials, haircuts and coloring before and on your wedding day. It’s great to have your entire bridal party—maybe even the groom’s party too—at the salon for a spa day. It’s yet another pre-wedding celebration.
Make sure you get a preview of your hair style and makeup at least a month before your wedding day so you don’t have to worry about what you’re going to look like. It’s one less thing to worry about. With the right team, you and your party will look your very best! ~ Erika Harding, ArchiTexture
Stylist from Heaven
styl•ist \”stï-list\ noun (1795)
a : one who develops, designs, or advises on styles
b : HAIRSTYLIST
c : MAKEUP STYLIST
b : WARDROBE STYLIST
A good stylist is not only someone who knows hair, makeup and wardrobe but someone who knows how to create the ideal look with you instead of just for you.
An excellent stylist is someone who will acknowledge your personal style, individual skin tone, style of veil and accessories for hair, theme of the wedding and the design of the wedding dress—and use that information to create your style.
Tip #1 — Look for someone who will tell you the truth. Honesty is key in the bride-stylist relationship.
Tip #2 — Be nosy. Ask questions: How many years of experience does your stylist have in bridal makeup? Does she or he waterproof the makeup? What kind of products do they use? How long will the makeup last without fading or melting off? What’s their philosophy on bridal makeup? Is it “Less is more” or “More is more”—and how does that fit with your own philosophy?
Tip #3 — When speaking to stylists, are they listeners or talkers? Are they friendly? Reassuring? Use your instinct before saying yes.
Tip #4 — Do they understand face shape and design a style accordingly. Ask if they only know the “Up-Do”? Can they do a 40’s Glam or a Soft-and-Natural half-down half-up look? How about a Chignon—French for low bun? What if your hair is too short or too thin for your desired style? Do they know about hair extensions? Clip or Bonded?
Tip #5 — Ask your stylists what kind of products are used? Every stylist should have several different hairsprays, pomade, gel, mousse and anti-humidity products—especially if you’re getting married outdoor, near the ocean salty air—as well as the proper irons, hot rollers, straighters and wave rod irons. All should be made of ceramic.
Tip #6 — Do they know their bridal designers, understand fabric and know the difference between a Tulle and a Chiffon Veil?
Once you find that excellent stylist, book a trial. Stylists in high demand are usually booked 4-12 months in advance. After the trial you should feel as if you’ve been given the Star Treatment, feeling more like yourself than when you arrived!
when you know you have found your stylist.
