Seven Sisters Jewelry

With a name like Seven Sisters Jewelry—one might wonder where the name originated from, “It was a struggle initially to select the business’ name, but my studio is along the Seven Sisters volcanic chain, and my mother is one of seven sisters! So it seemed meant to be and just perfect,” said owner and jewelry designer, Colleen Weist. “Seven is also the number of perfection in Chinese literature,” adding with a chuckle, “Which when you want perfection, you’ll want Seven Sisters Jewelry.”

The most interesting aspect to Colleen’s business is that there aren’t actually seven sisters making jewelry in a shop as one might think—it’s exclusively the artist, Colleen. She essentially makes all the pieces herself. “I want things done a certain way,” she said, explaining her desire for absolute flawlessness.

“The bride that is calling me knows that I, personally, am the one who will be making her piece and with that, she absolutely trusts the details will be perfect.”

The collections of jewelry Seven Sisters Jewelry supplies are of the highest quality of gemstones—these are the real deal. She works with precious metals, sterling silver and 14KT gold. She is also a certified pearl grader, using fresh water pearls, and Akoya salt water pearls. Her hand-selected faceted gemstones include everything from Ruby, Sapphire, Opal, Onyx, Coral and Moonstone to Tourmaline, Amethyst, Smoky Quartz, Citrine, Black Garnet, Garnet and Swarovski Crystals.

For brides who want to include gemstones and pearls in their wedding jewelry, or even for gifts for the bridesmaids and the mothers, Seven Sisters Jewelry pieces are a great addition. “I can put charms or stones on the back of a necklace and incorporate things that are meaningful such as birthstones, or other stones that have secret meanings. And I include a note in vellum explaining the meanings and properties behind the elements used – that makes for a fun piece, and one that is truly meaningful and heartfelt” Colleen notes.

Colleen can incorporate vintage elements into a jewelry design to make it versatile. “One of my favorite jewelry pieces is called a lariat necklace— it looks like a modified choker with a long hanging portion. For the wedding, brides can have their hair up; with this delicate detail gracefully hanging upon the small of her back...it is so gorgeous and adds a delicate sparkle. And after her wedding… when she wears jeans… she can wear the necklace, but now it’s in the front—so it’s very adaptable,” she said, explaining the duality of this classic piece.

An interesting and valued characteristic regarding Colleen’s hands-on service is the personalized connection she provides her brides. “Brides have a vision of what they want to look like and it starts with the dress. I provide the custom details with her accessories – necklaces, earrings and bracelet.  I also complete the look for the entire wedding party by coordinating their jewelry with their formalwear,” she said. Seven Sisters Jewelry provides an initial consultation at no charge, then works with what colors the bride would like to incorporate, and will offer a design for approval.  Colleen also uses many vintage pieces in her creations so a bride could have a one-of-a-kind necklace.

Creating a piece of jewelry for a bride is exciting and can be challenging, but when it all comes together, it’s worth it. Colleen states how she becomes so mesmerized by the crystals that she works late without even knowing the time is flying by. “The way the sparkle hits the eyes…it is captivating… when I have my studio lights on… I am seeing these sparkly gemstones and I can’t even begin to describe the sensation—I feel like I am being hypnotized by the stone. It will be 2AM in the morning but I feel as though I was only there for an hour,” she confesses.

When completing a piece, Colleen’s ultimate satisfaction comes from the bride and the bridal party’s experience of feeling extra-special. “It really makes me feel wonderful to be part of their wedding in my own special way.  I get to be included in this big event… it’s really an honor. I don’t take it lightly…it’s really a privilege,” Colleen shares.

With modern technology like the internet, email, and phone, brides anywhere in the US and even beyond, can have this unique experience. “Brides love the fact that they can get a look no one else will have. My designs are not mass produced— I create everything myself and can tailor the designs specifically for them and their special day,” Colleen of Seven Sisters Jewelry concludes cheerily.

Tips
  • #31 FLORAL DECOR
No wedding is complete without flowers. Try updating the traditional centerpiece by using masses of your favorite flowers in a variety of complementary tones for added texture and interest. For instance, if your bloom-of-choice is the gerbera daisy, try one centerpiece with dozens of red gerberas, another with orange, and another with fuchsia-colored bunches. Let your imagination run wild!

  • #16 COMFORTABLE RECEPTIONS
Reception spaces are taking on a comfort theme nowadays. Rather than using cocktail tables alone, couples are creating a lounge effect in their reception areas by adding cozy furniture groupings of sofas and coffee tables, along with tenting and draping, lamps and lanterns, lit up trees and dozens of candles. You may want to hire a jazz quartet or flamenco trio to create a sultry ambiance.  Some couples are even hiring cigar rollers!  You can also use this set-up outdoors for a living room beneath the stars!

  • # 1 - LOUNGING ANYWHERE
Wonder what to do to a resort ballroom to make it more interesting and intimate?  You can create individual lounge areas by renting tents of sheer flowing fabric and adding sofas and coffee tables with lots of candlelight in them.  You’ve suddenly created that romantic lounge atmosphere in a standard ballroom and given it more intimacy.  Your guests can move to different “rooms” during the cocktails hour or or they can dance the night away.
