Rhee Bevere Photography

It took someone else to tell Rhee Bevere that she should be a professional photographer. “My previous incarnation was as an Ad Creative,” Rhee told Your Wedding Day magazine. “I always knew it wasn’t quite the right fit, but wasn’t sure what I was really meant to do.”  This all changed one Christmas when she gave several advertising team members the gift of fine-art prints of her own photography. “My Creative Director barges into my office, holds up the print and announces, ‘Ya know, you’re pretty darn good at ad development but THIS is what you should be doing with your life.’ And BING!  On goes the light bulb!”says Rhee. Rhee began an apprenticeship with a photojournalistic wedding photographer and after shooting about 25 weddings, she decided she was ready to start out on my own, focusing her business in the region from the San Francisco Bay Area to Monterey. In one word, she told us what inspired her to go into and remain in the wedding photography business: “Everything!” she said. “Watching the transformation from beautiful woman into glowing bride, seeing the pride on the parents’ faces, or little tears of joy from a sister or aunt, hearing words of wisdom from an excellent officiate or pastor, watching the first dance, seeing happy tears during the toasts.” Rhee says she thrives on emotion and telling the story. “The work I do lets me tell the most amazing stories,” she said.

But what inspires her the most is the couple. “I have the most wonderful brides and grooms!  They are down to earth, stylish, funny, intelligent, and quite crazy about each other.” It’s mutual admiration, though, because one reason so many wonderful couples choose Rhee is that they think she’s pretty wonderful too! “They hire me because I know they want what I would want.” Rhee explains, “The whole amazing day caught and preserved, and not just a bunch of nice pretty photos of the two of them in fancy poses.”

We asked Rhee what she loves the very most about shooting weddings, and we just had to laugh at her response! “The first dance,” she told us. “No, wait, the ‘getting ready’ transformation.  WAIT, no!  It’s when my clients decide they’d like to see each other before the wedding!  We call it the ‘first glance’ and set it up for them as if it’s another key event.  So special.”  In other words, as Rhee had said earlier, she is inspired by and loves everything about a wedding.

Her couples love everything about her many services too, including her wedding photo storage products. “I believe the medium we use to store wedding memories should be as beautiful as possible,” she said. To that end, she works personally with book binders to create custom proof boxes and books for her couple’s photos, including an exquisite handmade Japanese book. She adds that all albums feature retouching and artistic touches and her “flushmount” storybooks are all designed in-house.

Rhee’s many talents have led to many rewards for her work, and she says some of the events that made her most proud include having several of her images in Suzie Coehlo’s new book Style Your Dream Wedding; being featured in the The Knot’s Northern California publication for three consecutive years; and being on the preferred vendor lists at many of Northern California and the Carmel area’s best wedding venues. She also added one more very important event. “I’ve been so blessed to be loved and recommended by my past wedding couples.”

Rhee loves working with couples throughout Northern California, and is excited to Southern California, Las Vegas, Tahoe, and Yosemite too.

Wherever your wedding, you’ll be very pleased that Rhee’s former employer realized that although she was great in advertising, she was even better – she is fantastic! —with photos.

Tips
  • #26 MARRYING MINDFULLY
Creating the “perfect wedding” can easily overshadow what is really important about getting married—creating a sacred and lifelong bond with your beloved. Your wedding is not a “to-do” list. Take time to tend to your relationship and to yourselves so that you enter into the celebration relaxed, joyful, and with a full heart.

  • #31 FLORAL DECOR
No wedding is complete without flowers. Try updating the traditional centerpiece by using masses of your favorite flowers in a variety of complementary tones for added texture and interest. For instance, if your bloom-of-choice is the gerbera daisy, try one centerpiece with dozens of red gerberas, another with orange, and another with fuchsia-colored bunches. Let your imagination run wild!

  • # 6  RECIPES FOR FAVORS
Gather together the favorite recipes that you remember as a child. They could be special family recipes, holiday menus, etc.  Have them bound in small books, affix a wedding label on the front with your monogram and date that you were married. And there you have it, a unique favor that your guests will use again and again. Also, it is a wonderful way to acknowledge grandmothers and mothers.
