La Tavola Linen

At five years old, Betsy Stone, co-owner with husband Herb of la tavola Fine Linen Rental, was fascinated by the different fabrics her grandmother purchased to keep on hand for making dresses. Betsy shares with us that even at that young age, she was constantly getting into the storage drawers to organize the materials. “But,” she admitted with a laugh, “it was mainly to see and touch the wonderful fabrics!” While most of us at the early age of five found it challenging to make a cardboard playhouse by just cutting out a window and a door, Betsy was making her playhouses couture, complete with detailed appointments and wonderful curtains! It is that love of fabric, and all things beautiful, that has served her inspiration throughout her life, and especially now with the establishment of la tavola, Italian for the table.  “Seeing a beautiful table, with fresh flowers and candlelight makes your heart pound,” she said.

Betsy takes this same love for all things beautiful and has created la tavola’s showroom to be an experience of wonderment. “It’s just like looking for a wedding dress,” she explained. “There are racks and racks of our linens on display to ‘dress’ your tables, along with sample tables.” Much more than just a showroom, la tavola is a place to be creative and have fun. It’s a place your wedding coordinator will be excited to show you, and quite possibly, you will want to bring your entire family and bridal party to join in the process of finding just the right fabrics, the “right look” for your wedding. Which while you are enjoying playing with the materials and creating, you can all enjoy a traditional Italian espresso too!

Just how much fun can you have?  Over 600 specialty fabrics worth of fun with Betsy and Herb’s full line of industry-quality fabrics waiting to be transformed into your exquisite tablecloths, napkins, runners, chair covers, cushions, and pillows.

But please, don’t worry if you’re unable to personally visit la tavola’s showroom in their northern California location in Napa; or their Design Studio located in San Francisco opening this September 2008. Instead, visit them at www.latavolalinen.com, and experience their comprehensive website.  Betsy explains, “Our website was designed with the wedding planner and the bride in mind. It’s a site that is easy to navigate and makes it easy for you to find the linens and accessories to reflect your taste, your vision, and leave your guests saying “Wow!”

On their website, you’ll find a photo of every linen la tavola keeps in stock. What you do (and this is where the fun begins) is choose a color, then “search” for the fabrics in that color range.  You’ll be able to see all the items - including napkins, table cloths, table runners, and chair cushions – as well as the sizes and other colors that are available in that fabric. There are also dozens of photos of tabletops to inspire you and give you a million great ideas.

With this unique and comprehensive website, la tavola’s business spans the globe, with linen and accessory rentals available worldwide, as Betsy says, from Napa, in northern California, to Napoli in Italy, several thousand miles away!

Whatever your wedding destination may be, you and your guests will all gather together in style with la tavola around your wedding table.

Tips
  • #16 COMFORTABLE RECEPTIONS
Reception spaces are taking on a comfort theme nowadays. Rather than using cocktail tables alone, couples are creating a lounge effect in their reception areas by adding cozy furniture groupings of sofas and coffee tables, along with tenting and draping, lamps and lanterns, lit up trees and dozens of candles. You may want to hire a jazz quartet or flamenco trio to create a sultry ambiance.  Some couples are even hiring cigar rollers!  You can also use this set-up outdoors for a living room beneath the stars!

  • # 1 - LOUNGING ANYWHERE
Wonder what to do to a resort ballroom to make it more interesting and intimate?  You can create individual lounge areas by renting tents of sheer flowing fabric and adding sofas and coffee tables with lots of candlelight in them.  You’ve suddenly created that romantic lounge atmosphere in a standard ballroom and given it more intimacy.  Your guests can move to different “rooms” during the cocktails hour or or they can dance the night away.

  • #21 LA FLEUR TABLE
Cover your entire table top with a single bold color of petals. Not just a scattering, but the entire top of the table with a thick layer of petals! You can purchase them at a farmers market or order them through your florist. Place your chargers, place settings, glassware and centerpieces in a contrasting color and lots of candles directly onto the petals for a stunning, romantic look!
