Photography is a passion and an art, but for Dyan Handeland and Robert
Tesoro of Handeland Tesoro Photography, it is the most beautiful
element for capturing love. “We love photographing a couple in love!
What could be more captivating? We adore capturing simple things – the
flower girl twisting her hair, when the ring bearer has fallen asleep,
when the Maid of Honor has removed her shoes, or the Groom's vows
written in his own hand,” Dyan said, explaining the beauty in the
not-so-obvious. “The fact that we are creating art, and at the same
time, a family heirloom,” she shares, “is an amazing process to be a
part of. We are creating a piece of history!”
Both Dyan and Robert have a background in shooting fashion, but for
them, weddings are the best of both worlds. “Technically, we approach a
wedding as we would any other fashion shoot with high-fashion dresses
and beautiful locations,” Dyan says.
The talented duo considers that the essence of the close relationship
with the couple is the best part of wedding photography.

“It’s an
intimate day and being in the room with them to create the bond between
us and them, is so wonderful to be a part of,” Robert conveys about
being behind the scenes photographing a wedding. The relationship grows
beyond the wedding, because for Handeland and Tesoro, they are often
invited into their new couple’s homes to take family photos, giving a
lifelong connection resulting in generations of amazing photographs.“When we look at our photographs and years have gone by – the feeling I want to have is almost when you go through the archives in TIME LIFE magazine. You’ve captured this moment in time, it’s now a little piece of history where when you look at the image, you get this feeling… that’s one of my favorite things in the world,” Dyan shares nostalgically.
Handeland and Tesoro photograph in both color and black & white, but for a wedding, they always do both. “When I look at black & white pictures, I notice things in the photo like seeing into the heart – you really have the ability to zone into that person’s eyes or the intimacy of the moment. With color photos, you may be drawn to how blue the sky is, but it may not bring you into the intimacy of the two people,” she said, explaining the differences in photography processing.
When asked what inspires them, “We are inspired by all aspects of a wedding – it’s like an emotional meshing of all kinds of photography: the stunning WOW impact of a fashion shoot; the precision of a commercial shoot; the soul-capturing element of a unique portrait; the unscripted, and the unexpected beauty of an editorial shoot,” Dyan explains, and Robert affirms, “We are inspired by the simplest, yet the most profound things – love, nature, emotion and beauty in all its form.”
With a style that is editorial and organic, unobtrusive and easy going, individualized and connected to the uniqueness of each couple, Handeland Tesoro Photography are no means a cookie-cutter photography studio. They are much more of a boutique studio with limited number of weddings each year in order to ensure their personal attention to each couple. Their images exude the essence of Dyan and Robert and that is style! Even the way they “set up” a photo, there is a natural form in how everyone falls into position and how they compose it.
Obviously the wedding day is exciting, but can be nerve-wracking in that the bride is usually concerned about things going smoothly; and the groom, he, too has his own set of worries. The way in how Dyan and Robert approach this exhilarating day is to bring a certain calmness, humor and professionalism which they’ve gained this ability through their specific backgrounds. Their priority is first and foremost the couple, as they expand reassuring that they have the ability to handle even the toughest wedding day jitters, “we will calm them, wrangle for them, advocate for them, be the glue that holds their day together, along with their coordinator, of course, and do everything we can to capture their day!”
The winning formula for this talented duo is simple, they love what they do, and it shows in their beautiful portfolio of images. There are no boundaries for this jetsetting team, they’ve photographed beautiful weddings in locales all over the world including in Norway, London, Paris, Italy – and all over the U.S. such as NYC, The Hamptons, Palm Beach, Boston, Texas, Chicago, Minneapolis, Arizona, Santa Barbara, Carmel and San Francisco. To illustrate their impressive skills even further, you can and will continue to find their beautiful images featured in dozens of magazines around the world; “Nesting,” their published coffee-table book has been featured on Oprah; they’ve been noted as two of the most sought-after photographers in Los Angeles on the TV show Rough Cut LA; and Robert is listed in the Marquis "Who's Who in America" as well as the Cambridge, "Who's Who Among Executives and Professionals." What Dyan and Robert of Handeland Tesoro Photography will do next, we can only imagine is amazing!

# 6 RECIPES FOR FAVORS
Gather together the favorite recipes that you remember as a child. They could be special family recipes, holiday menus, etc. Have them bound in small books, affix a wedding label on the front with your monogram and date that you were married. And there you have it, a unique favor that your guests will use again and again. Also, it is a wonderful way to acknowledge grandmothers and mothers.

#31 FLORAL DECOR
No wedding is complete without flowers. Try updating the traditional
centerpiece by using masses of your favorite flowers in a variety of
complementary tones for added texture and interest. For instance, if
your bloom-of-choice is the gerbera daisy, try one centerpiece with
dozens of red gerberas, another with orange, and another with
fuchsia-colored bunches. Let your imagination run wild!

# 1 - LOUNGING ANYWHERE
Wonder what to do to a resort ballroom to make it more interesting and intimate? You can create individual lounge areas by renting tents of sheer flowing fabric and adding sofas and coffee tables with lots of candlelight in them. You’ve suddenly created that romantic lounge atmosphere in a standard ballroom and given it more intimacy. Your guests can move to different “rooms” during the cocktails hour or or they can dance the night away. Jill La Fleur, The Wedding Planner
