Things We Love
  • ywd_heartsonfire_intro.jpgAny diamond will carry a romantic message to a beloved bride, but only one will set her heart on fire. A diamond that is so perfectly cut that it has all the classic elements of a diamond’s beauty—brilliance, dispersion and scintillation. A diamond that sparkles like a red-hot fire. A Hearts On Fire diamond.

Good Gracious! Events

The owner of Good Gracious! Events, Pauline Parry, hails from England, with a background in hotel restaurant management. When she and her husband and children moved to Los Angeles, it was her new-found friends, who became her appreciative dinner guests and enthusiasts encouraging her to begin a catering business.

She is, indeed, “fabulous” at the culinary arts, and as long as she can remember, she has always been in the kitchen cooking, exploring her inspiration for food and entertaining. So she took her friends’ advice and started Good Gracious! Events over twenty years ago.

After only one year, she had an extensive amount of business requiring her to establish her first commercial kitchen. From there, her inspiration from clean, simple and delicious cuisine took another angle. “I started as a caterer because food was my first love,” she said, “and this was followed rapidly by wanting to have a great presentation with whatever I cooked.” With her attention to detail and attraction to produce a complete experience for her guests from great cuisine to ambience, Good Gracious! Events expanded their services to include full-service event design and production where they offer three main divisions: off-premise catering, event design, and wedding consulting.

Because Pauline loves every element of her business, answering YWD’s question, “What do you love the most?” was difficult for her. “That is a hard question,” she responded, “as I love many elements. I love people and the dynamics of family and friends. I love seeing people’s faces when they taste our food. I love when we solve numerous little problems that come up along the way. I love when clients, for the first time, see what we have created for them based on their vision.” Her list goes on and on and she admits she also loves the procession, the vows, the first dance, the father/daughter dance, and especially the end of the day and the sense of accomplishment she feels. “That makes me feel very happy to know we’ve been a part of a very special occasion!”

No wonder Pauline turned from “just” catering to designing her client’s entire events – she loves it all! And her client’s love her too. Her client’s have taken her to Monte Carlo as well as Napa/Sonoma, Yosemite, Santa Barbara, Palm Springs, Las Vegas or close to Good Gracious! Events’ home base in the Los Angeles area.

Pauline would like to add one more item to her list of things she loves: she would love to hear from you about your wedding plans. With Pauline and the team of Good Gracious! Events, your event will be a most fabulous affair!

  • # 6  RECIPES FOR FAVORS
Gather together the favorite recipes that you remember as a child. They could be special family recipes, holiday menus, etc.  Have them bound in small books, affix a wedding label on the front with your monogram and date that you were married. And there you have it, a unique favor that your guests will use again and again. Also, it is a wonderful way to acknowledge grandmothers and mothers.

  • #11 QUICK FIX
Traveling with an emergency kit is like the American Express campaign, “Don’t leave home without it.” It should have everything from panty hose and nail glue to smelling salts and Tums, but the most commonly used item is SAFETY PINS!  Although you should have a needle and thread, I have resorted to using safety pins for fixing hems on tuxedos, bustling the brides gown, pinning broken bra straps and creating a veil or headpiece out of tulle when the bride’s was left at home.  Safety pins are great for a “quick fix.”

  • #26 MARRYING MINDFULLY
Creating the “perfect wedding” can easily overshadow what is really important about getting married—creating a sacred and lifelong bond with your beloved. Your wedding is not a “to-do” list. Take time to tend to your relationship and to yourselves so that you enter into the celebration relaxed, joyful, and with a full heart.
