Even though Crystal Lequang, owner of Amazáe Special Events, worked in
the corporate world as an IT project manager for almost seven years,
she told us here at Your Wedding Day that during this time, she was the
one who was always in charge of planning, coordinating, and designing
her group’s events. “It wasn’t part of my job description,” Crystal
explained, “but I enjoyed it so much.” She was also enjoying helping
her friends and family members with their special events and weddings.

So, it seemed very natural when she began examining the wedding and
event industry from an IT perspective. “I was looking to provide
software solutions for wedding planners,” she said, “and next thing I
knew, I was hooked into the industry itself and wanted to start my own
company in event planning.” Her first step, then, toward her new career
was to enroll in classes through the Association of Certified
Professional Wedding Consultants (ACPWC). Her second step was to start
her own business, Amazáe Special Events, in 2004.
Crystal finds a great deal of humor in this sequence of events leading her from IT to wedding planning, but how she arrived at the name for her company, Amazáe was even more humorous. Crystal shares, “It took me months of writing cheesy lines to cliché names to come up with this.”
Of course, there is a serious side to her company too, including her seriously amazing accomplishments! In just a few years, she has achieved Professional Wedding Consultant status through ACPWC; she has become so capable she planned and implemented a Platinum wedding in less than four months time; and she planned, designed, and executed one of the San Francisco Bay area’s largest and most prestigious event showcases, Una Bella Sera (you can read all about this event in Your Wedding Day magazine’s Fall 2008 issue!). With accomplishments such as these so early in her wedding planning career, it’s no wonder that she has another grand achievement too, opening a brand new office and doubling her business every year!
Crystal attributes much of her success to her couples and the inspiration they provide. “I get most inspired when I am able to integrate my brides’ and grooms’ different personalities and work with amazing vendors on design to create a very special and unique day.” Crystal makes this her goal for all of her couples, regardless of the level of her services they require, from her competent “Wedding Coordination” level of service to the full production execution of either a Bay Area or destination wedding, anywhere worldwide. “What I love is when I see how excited and happy my clients are on their wedding day.”
In fact, Crystal cares so much about brides and grooms, she wants to help them even if they wind up not being her brides and grooms. “We offer complimentary consultations to all inquiring clients,” she said, “allowing us to meet each other, get to know more about what the couple is looking for, and where they are in their planning process. Even if a couple doesn’t book with us, we want them leaving our consultation feeling good about the planning process, as well as have realistic expectations of vendors they will meet.” Her caring nature extends not only toward her own company and all brides and grooms, but toward all of the industry’s many vendors.
But for those lucky couples who do choose to work with Amazáe Special Events, they will find lots of extras along with the “mechanics” of their wedding planning. “We try to distinguish ourselves at the first meeting with the extra time, dedication, attention to details, design passion, experience, and concentration we put into their wedding,” Crystal said. “We really want them to feel that we will create an event that will exceed their vision and expectations while making it remain all about them, not just a company creating an event.”
From IT to the wedding/event planning team, life has assured Crystal a wonderful journey, and with Crystal and Amazáe Special Events, you will be assured a wonderful wedding journey too.

#26 MARRYING MINDFULLY
Creating the “perfect wedding” can easily overshadow what is really
important about getting married—creating a sacred and lifelong bond
with your beloved. Your wedding is not a “to-do” list. Take time to
tend to your relationship and to yourselves so that you enter into the
celebration relaxed, joyful, and with a full heart.

#11 QUICK FIX
Traveling with an emergency kit is like the American Express campaign, “Don’t leave home without it.” It should have everything from panty hose and nail glue to smelling salts and Tums, but the most commonly used item is SAFETY PINS! Although you should have a needle and thread, I have resorted to using safety pins for fixing hems on tuxedos, bustling the brides gown, pinning broken bra straps and creating a veil or headpiece out of tulle when the bride’s was left at home. Safety pins are great for a “quick fix.”

#21 LA FLEUR TABLE
Cover your entire table top with a single bold color of petals. Not
just a scattering, but the entire top of the table with a thick layer
of petals! You can purchase them at a farmers market or order them
through your florist. Place your chargers, place settings, glassware
and centerpieces in a contrasting color and lots of candles directly
onto the petals for a stunning, romantic look!
